At Jacques Cantin Talking Bools Association, children and young people with visual impairments are encouraged to explore the world through listening, tasting and discovery.

For 25 years, Marilyn Smith-Seeboruth has been helping young learners do just that.  Twice a week, her Classe d’Écoute brings together around 20 learners from Lois Lagesse Trust Fund school to listen to books and news reports, exchange ideas and voice their opinions. “Their blindness should not limit them from discovering what is happening around them,” she says.

Marilyn later introduced the Classe Dégustation, giving learners opportunities to discover different foods and flavours, from fresh produce to packaged products.

These simple yet meaningful experiences open new doors to discovery. By listening, tasting and exchanging ideas, learners strengthen their senses, build confidence and find new ways to connect with the world around them.
