Founded by young professionals and public officers, it started by promoting sports and debates to help youth avoid drugs while developing skills for personal growth and nation building. By 1969, the group formally registered as an association, expanding its activities and reach.

Over the years, Century Welfare Association has broadened its focus to include women’s empowerment, vocational training, and support for vulnerable families. Since 1998, it has operated a special needs school and daycare in Port Louis, serving around 110 children and adults aged 5 to 39. Students benefit from academic programmes, vocational skills like cookery and sewing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and daily lunch, while families in need also receive food support.

On 3 November 2025, the NGO received funding through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), funded by the Japanese government, to extend its rehabilitation facilities. A new 300 m² outdoor space will increase access to physical therapy, sensory integration, and a therapeutic calm area, enhancing students’ motivation, engagement, and wellbeing.

For over five decades, Century Welfare Association has combined innovation, compassion, and empowerment to strengthen futures for youth, women, and persons with disabilities across the community.
