Recognised Expertise Beyond Direct Services

For many years, NGOs in Mauritius were often perceived primarily as providers of informal care. Today, organisations such as Autisme Maurice are helping to redefine that perception by demonstrating a high level of professionalism, professional services, specialised expertise and a commitment to continuous learning.

Recognised as a leading organisation in the field of autism, Autisme Maurice not only supports autistic individuals and their families through direct professional services but increasingly shares its expertise with institutions across various sectors. This growing demand for training reflects the confidence that organisations place in the association's knowledge and practical experience.

Supporting Inclusive Healthcare

In April and May 2026, Autisme Maurice delivered specialised professional training sessions to healthcare professionals from C-Care clinics and laboratories. These workshops aimed to strengthen understanding of autism and promote more inclusive healthcare practices.

Participants explored key topics such as recognising the characteristics of autism, understanding sensory sensitivities, differentiating between tantrums and meltdowns, and adopting effective communication strategies with autistic individuals and their families. They were also introduced to practical tools that can help create a more supportive and reassuring healthcare experience for patients on the autism spectrum.

Promoting Autism-Friendly Hospitality

Autisme Maurice also partnered with the Sunlife Group to provide training to hospitality professionals. The sessions equipped staff with the knowledge and practical skills needed to better welcome and support guests with autism, while fostering greater awareness and understanding within the tourism sector.

These initiatives highlight the valuable role NGOs can play beyond direct professional service provision. By sharing their expertise with healthcare providers, businesses and other institutions, Autisme Maurice is helping to create more inclusive environments and build a society where everyone feels understood, respected and supported.
