EDYCS Epilepsy Group is a voluntary non-governmental organization formed in 1997 by a group of volunteers, patients with epilepsy and health care professionals, whose aims are to assist people with epilepsy through advocacy, access to quality health care, training, campaigning and research.
EDYCS Epilepsy Group is the leading NGO dedicated to upholding the rights and addressing the needs of all those affected by epilepsy, through the promotion and provision of high quality services and working to ensure the continual enhancement of the quality of the people it serves.

In the heart of 1997, Mauritius witnessed the birth of a movement that would forever change the narrative of epilepsy in the nation. Led by the visionary Youssouf Noormamode, C.S.K, an ensemble of passionate professionals united to establish the EDYCS Epilepsy Group.
This was not just any group; it was a beacon of hope for those living in the shadows, a voice loud enough to be heard across the oceans, and a touch gentle enough to heal the deepest wounds.
Registered as a non-profit and non governmental health charity, our mission is unwavering - to champion the rights of those with epilepsy, ignite public awareness, and fuel education. Through publications, conferences, and groundbreaking outreach initiatives, we are not just discussing change; we are being the change.
But our journey does not end within our borders. We proudly stand shoulder to shoulder with renowned international institutions, advocating for public health in epilepsy. From the International Bureau for Epilepsy to the WHO Country Office and UN Agencies, our alliances are as diverse as they are powerful. Together, we are writing history.
Our key objectives are:
- Advocate in favor of the epilepsy sufferers towards the fulfillment of their rights in the educational, employment, health and social sectors.
- Promote epilepsy awareness and understanding in the Republic of Mauritius including Rodrigues through public talks, seminars, conferences and symposiums.
- Run on a non-profit motive an Epilepsy Educational School for children with epilepsy and learning disability.
- Promote epilepsy care services enhancing the Quality of lives of the epilepsy sufferers via the establishment of Epilepsy Health Service Centers in Mauritius and Rodrigues.
- Recruit and retain Volunteers to support the epilepsy agenda
- Work in close collaboration with Government, Private Institutions and Civil Society at large to address the needs of the epilepsy sufferers.
- Build strong networking and partnership with local, regional and international agencies in the epilepsy and mental health sectors.
- Undertake research in epilepsy.
- Mobilize resources for the attainment of the above objectives
- Epilepsy Leadership: leading and prime partner in epilepsy matters in the Republic of Mauritius Global Voice Our President, Y. Noormamode, amplifies the voice of epilepsy on global platforms. National alliances fostered key partnerships with national ministries, the National Social Inclusion Foundation and global entities such as WHO African Health Drive Pioneering epilepsy as a health priority across Africa, in alliance with IBE Africa Region Global Collaborations Collaboration with renowned institutes like VERDE Frontiers Ltd and Universite de Limoges Educational Initiatives
- Launch of influential networks: Schools Network around Epilepsy and EDYCS Professional Medical Network Rights Advocacy Partnered with national councils advocating for the rights of youth, women and children with epilepsy.
- Research Collaboration Joint efforts with the Ministry of Education and University of Limoges: to study epilepsy in Mauritian primary schools. Global Action Role Pushed for Mauritius's participation in the lntersectoral Global Action Plan on Epilepsy.
- Employment Advocacy: Advocated for employment rights of individuals with epilepsy. Health Service Milestone Founded the pioneering Epilepsy Health Service Center in 2000, benefiting 2000+ patients.
- Disability Protocol Played a key role in the adoption of the African Union Disability Protocol Resource Distribution Published invaluable epilepsy resources for diverse audiences
- Inclusive Education: Launched the EDYCS SEN Schools offering inclusive education to young beneficiaries in Mauritius and Rodrigues islands Digital Visibility Teamed up with The Meraki Studio to boost global digital visibility.
- Rodrigues Expansion: Extended our reach to Rodrigues, establishing Epilepsy Service Center, impacting more than 380 patients and families
