
Angel Special School and Welfare association
Angel Special School and Welfare Association is a special educational needs school (SENS) for children with disabilities and experiencing multiple learning challenges based at Chemin Grenier and Rivière des Anguilles.
Our approach is child-centred that emphasizes on building autonomy and self-motivation. We operate on adapted activities and collaborative play and our classroom set up are designed with various activity areas that encourage independent exploitation.
Our Therapy and Training Centre based at Rivière des Anguilles provides medical services, training and therapies to our beneficiaries and to the public.
At Angel Special Special and Welfare Association, we strive to provide a conducive environment to the children and parents that will boost their self-esteem, promote self-advocacy skills, encourage them to form meaningful relationships and assist them in maintaining a healthy social life.

On 9th July 2009, after a year of mobilising parents of children with disabilities, Angel Special School and Welfare Association was registered as association. At the beginning, the association ran regular psycho education session, meetups and organised outings for parents.
In February 2010, the NGO started to operate a daycare centre for 10 children and a parental school for their parents in a garage in Chemin Grenier with the aim of providing a conducive environment to children so that they can develop their self-confidence, self-esteem, promote self-advocacy skills, encouraging them to form meaningful relationships and maintain a social life.
By 2012, with the growing enrolment demands, Angel Special School and Welfare Association became a full-fledged special needs school and became affiliated with the Ministries of Education and Social Security.
In 2017, Angel Special School launched a new Therapy and Training Centre based at Rivière des Anguilles where training, therapies and other services are offered by a multidisciplinary team to beneficiaries and to the public. The services include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and psychological follow ups. Therapies are offered according to the needs of each beneficiary.
In addition to that, Angel Special School has developed a collaboration with Gonzague Pierre Louis Special Learning Centre in Rodrigues where we offer therapy services to their beneficiaries.
Between 2017 and 2024, we have also developed international exchange programs with special needs schools in India and in Dubai to foster inclusion, cultural understanding and global collaboration.

- Our inspiring success story was the Dance Competition.
- Participation to the Student Quality Control Circle where students showcased their sport and karate skills.
- Participation to the Spardha Youth Sport Olympiad 2024 at City Montessory school in Lucknow, India
- 2 students won a silver Medal in Bocce during the Special Olympic World Summer Game 2023 in Germany. These students initially struggled with basic literacy through dedicated learning and artistic expression, gained confidence and skills to perform on an international stage in 2015,2017,2019 and 2024.
- In 2022 one of our students obtained 6 units in PSAC exams.
- In 2024 two PSAC candidates have been awarded 6 units. One has integrated a mainstream secondary school and the other one is on a pre-vocational program.
