02 mars 2019 T1 Diams Vacancy for the post of Diabetes Educator and Medical Officer

T1 Diams, the NGO providing multidisciplinary support to people living with Type 1 diabetes in Mauritius and Rodrigues Island is looking for a : 

1. Dynamic Diabetes Educator on a full-time basis.

Main duties and responsibilities:

- On a daily basis, provide assistance over the phone, face to face or via e-communication systems to potential and current members, their families and the general public in matters concerning Type 1 diabetes or T1 Diams objectives, services and projects.
- To provide first level of psychological support to members and their families and to identify and stimulate further sources of support through peers and family sharing of experience.
- To schedule, confirm and monitor appointments for members requiring consultations with medical professionals (dialectologist, nutritionists/dietitians, clinical psychologists and optometrists, etc.) internal and external to T1 Diams.
- To educate on insulin therapy with adaptation of doses, rotation of injection sites and use of Glucagon.
- To participate in the yearly Diabetes Camps for children and adolescents and to carry out the educational & psychological activities scheduled.
- To help create awareness on type 1 diabetes to reduce taboos around this condition by delivering presentations and by representing T1 Diams on public awareness events.
- To train teachers and school staff on diabetes management (more specifically to empower teachers to perform the mid-day insulin injection for children on basal bolus regimen amongst others.)
- Set up and maintain paper and electronic filing systems for records, correspondence, and other material in the medical domain.
- Work in collaboration with T1 Diams', psychotherapist, doctors, dietitian and other health professionals to ensure a multidisciplinary approach.
- Participate actively in all activities organized by the NGO.

Qualifications

- Degree in any science subject, Nutrition or a diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution with at least 2 years of experience in a similar post. Knowledge and experience in Type 1 Diabetes will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of computer tools such as email; Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

2. Medical Officer

Main duties and responsibilities:

- Coordinate the planning and running up of the Projet Soleil (CEPOM – Care, Empowerment and Peace of Mind). 0
- Ensure a medical meeting is held at least once a week.
- Participate in the weekly medical meeting held with T1 Diams manager and the social worker.
- Be present at T1 Diams activities whenever requested to supervise medical team.
- Ensure coordination between the medical department and the social and nutrition department.
- Devise, together with the medical team, a document to track all visits and ensure that proper recording is done on the server.
- Ensure proper reporting is done for all medical activities.
- Ensure updating of personal patient files.
- Consultation of type 1 diabetics where necessary and give appropriate treatment.
- Prepare synthesis of the current month information and actions to be handed over to the manager for the Executive committee.
- Participate actively in all activities organized by the NGO.

Qualifications

- Degree in Medicine from a recognized institution with 2 years of residency training and registered as a Medical Practitioner with Medical Council of Mauritius.
Experience in Type 1 Diabetes will be an advantage.
